Common sense of cable shield grounding

1. When the cable has only a single shield, one end of the shield should be grounded with equipotential grounding.

2. When the cable is shielded by double-layer insulation, the outermost shield is grounded at both ends, and the inner shield is grounded at the equipotential level.

3. When the cable is used in places with severe interference, frequent rodents, and lightning protection and explosion-proof requirements, it is advisable to use armored twisted-pair shielded cable-ASTP-120Ω (for RS485 & CAN) one pair 18 AWG, outside the cable. The diameter is about 12.3mm. When in use, both ends of the armored layer are grounded, and one end of the innermost shield is grounded!

Frequency converters, power cables, transformers, high-power motors, etc. are often accompanied by low-frequency interference, which cannot be solved by cables with high-conductivity materials as shielding layers, including original imported cables. Only the shielding layer made of high magnetic permeability materials (such as steel strips and steel wires) can effectively suppress low-frequency interference.

The most common method is to cover the cable with steel pipe or directly use armored cable made of high magnetic permeability material - ASTP-120Ω (for RS485 & CAN) one pair 18 AWG .

The equivalent interference frequency of lightning is about 100k, which belongs to low frequency interference.
